Audio and Video Codecs for Windows 7
Do you like this story?
Although Windows 7 have higher compatibility in playing the different file formats as compared to the Windows Media Player of Windows XP and Vista by default but still there are certain codecs which even Win 7 is unable to recognize and play by default.
There are more audio and video formats that are used today like flv, mkv or ogg etc but these are not recognized by default by Windows 7 and even it don’t show the thumbnailsfor them. So here is a codec pack that is designed specifically for Windows 7 so that it can recognize and play most of them easily.
The codec pack I am talking about is called the Win7codecs, and installing this codec pack ensures that our system gets the following codecs which were missing from it:
amr | mpc | ofr | divx | mka | ape | flac | evo | flv | m4b | mkv | ogg | ogv | ogm | rmvb | xvid
The advantage of using this codec pack over others is that it will install only the missing codecs and does not install any additional software however you will manually need to associate the file types with the Windows Media Player to be able to play these file formats.
You will also start seeing the thumbnails of these file formats after installing this codec pack.
